The fault
When your boiler won’t ignite or keeps going out
If the boiler tries to fire and locks out, or the pilot won’t stay lit, the cause is usually a faulty ignition lead, gas valve or flame-sensing electrode. It can also be low gas pressure or a blocked condensate pipe in cold weather.
A frozen condensate pipe is a common winter cause in Dorset and often shows a specific fault code, sometimes a simple thaw, but always worth a proper check.
Common causes we find
✓Faulty ignition lead or electrode
✓Failed gas valve or low gas pressure
✓Dirty or faulty flame-sensing probe
✓Frozen condensate pipe (winter lockouts)
✓Faulty PCB not firing the ignition
How we deal with it
1
Diagnose safely
We check the ignition, gas supply, flame sensor and condensate pipe to find why it won’t light.

Are your engineers Gas Safe registered?+
Yes, all gas work is carried out by vetted, Gas Safe registered engineers.
Why does my boiler keep locking out?+
Repeated lockouts after failed ignition usually mean a component, ignition lead, gas valve or flame sensor, needs replacing, or a frozen condensate pipe in winter.
Is it safe to keep resetting the boiler?+
Reset once or twice, but repeated resets mask a real fault. If it keeps locking out, book a Gas Safe engineer.
